Apple’s walled garden is slowly opening up. Over the past couple of years, Apple and Google have worked together to make it easier for users to switch between Android and iOS. As part of that process, the companies are making it easier than ever to transfer data from an iPhone to an Android device.
At The Android Show | I/O Edition 2026 keynote presentation, Google announced that even more types of data can now be transferred wirelessly from an iPhone to an Android device. In addition to apps, calendar entries, call logs, contacts, images, messages, passwords, reminders, and videos, the switching process now supports app data and home screen layouts as well.
The following data can now be transferred from an iPhone to an Android device:
- Accessibility settings
- Alarms
- Apps (free downloads) with app data (for supported apps)
- Calendar entries
- Call history
- Contacts
- Email accounts
- Files (documents, images, videos, and more)
- Home screen layouts
- Messages
- Notes
- Passwords
- Wallpapers
- WhatsApp chats and data
This upgraded data transfer process will first be available on Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy devices later this year. It will likely debut with Android 17 and One UI 9 on the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide in July 2026 with upgraded Smart Switch. It will then likely roll out to existing devices with the stable One UI 9.0 update.
Samsung is opening the One UI 9.0 beta program this week. There is a chance we could see this upgraded iPhone-to-Android switching process on devices eligible for the One UI 9.0 beta program.
